Here's some more information.

There are two CD-ROMs being released: the new, February/March OS/2 2.1
beta and the February/March OS/2 Professional Developer's Kit CD-ROM.
The former contains the very latest OS/2 2.1 beta code (the final "wide
beta" before OS/2 2.1's retail release). Yes, if you live in the United
States, and if you ordered the December OS/2 2.1 beta, you will receive
this March OS/2 2.1 beta automatically. Also, if you are a member of
the IBM Developer Assistance Program, you will receive the March OS/2
2.1 Beta CD-ROM automatically.

For additional programming tools and information, you need to order the
March OS/2 Professional Developer's Kit CD-ROM. This CD-ROM will
contain OS/2 2.1 base operating system beta code, but it will not be as
"fresh" as the March OS/2 2.1 Beta CD-ROM. You will not be sent the PDK
CD-ROM automatically. If you want this CD-ROM, call IBM at
800-3-IBM-OS2 and order it. The cost is $15, including shipping via
Airborne Express. You may be required to join the IBM Developer
Assistance Program to get this CD-ROM, but membership is free. Details
will be available when you call, if necessary. DO NOT CALL
800-3-IBM-OS2 NOW: Wait for further information in this newsgroup on
availability.

People attending the Phoenix OS/2 Developer's Conference will receive
these CD-ROMs at part of their package.

If you live outside the United States, please see the OS/2 FAQ List for
IBM OS/2 CD-ROM ordering information. Due to distribution delays you
may not receive your beta CD-ROM as quickly as those in the United
States.

If you wish to obtain a third OS/2 CD-ROM, the Device Development Kit
CD-ROM, please see the file vga800-b.zip, available via anonymous ftp
>from ftp-os2.nmsu.edu. Check directory /pub/uploads or file
/pub/os2/00Index for location. This information will be added to the
next OS/2 FAQ List.

Diskette versions of the March OS/2 2.1 Beta, the March OS/2 PDK, and
the OS/2 DDK CD-ROMs are not available from IBM. However, each of these
CD-ROMs contains diskette image files for each product. If you can
arrange to copy these diskette image files off the CD-ROM onto any PC
(running DOS or OS/2), you can "master" your own OS/2 installation
diskettes for each of the products (using the included LOADDSKF
utility). Thus, you can, for example, mount the OS/2 CD-ROM of your
choice onto a Sun workstation, copy the necessary files off the CD-ROM
to your PC (by whatever means you wish), then create the necessary
diskettes from the PC. If you have access to any CD-ROM reader, then,
even if it isn't attached to your own machine, go ahead and order the
CD-ROM(s) of your choice.

If you do not have access to a CD-ROM reader (even one on another
machine), then you may wish to retrieve the diskette image files from an
ftp site. I expect that the March OS/2 2.1 beta will be made available
through various ftp sites (e.g. ftp-os2.nmsu.edu) when it is available.
Watch this newsgroup for further announcements. The contents of the
OS/2 PDK and DDK CD-ROMs will not be available via anonymous ftp.

To reiterate, the March OS/2 2.1 Beta is not yet available from Internet
ftp sites. Watch this newsgroup for further announcements on
availability.

Note that you will need one blank high density diskette for each
diskette image file you retrieve. The December OS/2 2.1 Beta required
27 3.5 inch high density diskettes. The March OS/2 2.1 Beta should
require a similar number. (More diskettes are required for the 5.25
inch version.) You should retrieve the diskette image files
corresponding to your required media size. (Your required media size is
the size of your Drive A on your PC.) Again, watch this newsgroup for
an announcement about availability.

If you wish to purchase a CD-ROM drive you may consider the inexpensive
alternatives I list in the OS/2 FAQ List. For under $300 you can obtain
a quality, OS/2 compatible CD-ROM reader from NEC or IBM.

Again, three OS/2 CD-ROMs are available. The DDK CD-ROM is available
now (per the instructions referenced above). The new PDK CD-ROM and 2.1
base operating system Beta CD-ROM will be available in a matter of days.
Watch this newsgroup for further announcements on OS/2 CD-ROM
availability.
