My latest adventures with OS/2: In the FAQ, it mentions that in order to
activate SVGA support, you just need to type "SVGA ON" in an DOS
Full-screen window, and then shutdown and reboot.
It turns out there's a very good reason why they specified that you must
use a full-screen window. If you don't, your OS/2 installation gets
subtly corrupted, so that when you boot, OS/2 complains that it can't
load OS2/MDOS/VMOUSE.SYS, and when WPS comes up, your mouse doesn't
work. The file VMOUSE.SYS did exist; that part of the config file
didn't seem to be changed; I even tried following the directions for how
to recover from a corrupted CONFIG.SYS, OS2.INI, or OS2SYS.INI file by
holding down alt-F1 during the reboot sequence. All of this in vain;
VMOUSE.SYS still refused to load during the boot sequence. (Of course,
OS/2 didn't bother explaining *WHY* it couldn't load VMOUSE.SYS; no,
that would be too user friendly!)
So finally ended up dragging out the install disks yet again, and
reinstalled the darned thing from scratch. And people say that Unix is
a horrible operating system because it's so easy to hurt yourself using
it?
