------- forwarded message -------
I ran into a problem trying to reinstall OS/2 2.1 this weekend, and
would appreciate some help.
*Symptom:
When I try to boot OS/2 on my home machine, all I get is:
OS/2 !! SYS02025
OS/2 !! SYS02027
*Expanded statement:
I'm pretty sure I've seen a description of this problem and its solution
on either a newsgroup or BBS. But, of course, I didn't store the solution
(on line, on paper, or in head). I suspect I'm doing something "stupid"
(actually, I'm hoping I am, because then the fix should be easy).
I used the OS/2 "help" system to get more information. Nothing for
SYS02025, 02025, 2025 (sigh). The descriptions for 25 and 27 indicate
problems with the drives, but I know those are misleading, because I
_can_ access the disk using DOS and my OS/2 boot disk.
I had OS/2 2.1 GA running on my system, but decided I wanted to try Warp.
The disk where I wanted to install OS/2 (see machine details below), was
not partitioned, so I decided to repartition it to facilitate future
tests and installations (small partitions are less painful to reformat).
The only change since I last installed OS/2 at home was the addition
of the CD-ROM.
I backed up all my important files, and many (but NOT all) the files
in my OS/2 subdirectories.
I mostly tried installing from CD-ROM. Thus, I modified a copy of Disk 1
by adding the driver for my SCSI adaptor and editing config.sys to install
the driver.
I partitioned my SCSI drive, then started the installation. It read
the installation disk and Disk 1, and prompted me for the destination
disk; I chose to change from C:, and thus wound up in fdisk, which I
used to make F: installable. The installation procedure copied files
to F: then prompted me to remove the diskette and press Enter. I did,
and after the computer rebooted, I saw the two error numbers.
I rebooted again, chose the disk from Disk Manager, and saw the two
error numbers again. I booted to DOS and looked at the "new" OS/2.
Comparison with my emergency floppy leaves me thinking all the important
hidden files are there, although their attributes aren't the same.
I've compared attributes with my OS/2 boot disk and my copy of OS/2 at
work and can't see any differences.
*Variations:
Copy files I had saved from the OS2 and OS2/DLL directories and rebooting
Install to D: (logical drive on my primary, IDE, disk
Install from floppies (rather than CD)
Same result each time
Also, I've installed OS/2 2 or three times at home and 2-3 times at
work as I've added or migrated disks (I moved a HardCard), and most
have gone smoothly.
