On the address configured on the interface typically, or whatever
other system specifical local means are used to enter a route for the
prefix for the interface.

Typically on Linux;

  ip=3D/sbin/ip
  ${ip} -f inet6 addr add ${new_ip6_address}/${new_ip6_prefixlen} \
	dev ${interface} scope global
