At the UA Town Hall meeting last night Larry Benedict announced that freshmen
would not be guaranteed the ability to stay in the rooms assigned to them over
the summer.
This is the (new) general outline of things:
1) Freshmen get admitted, hopefully come to CPW, and matriculate.
2) Freshmen gets the Interactive Introduction to the Institute CD in the mail
(see i3.mit.edu)
3) Freshmen enters dorm lottery over the summer, by June 21st.
--This is accompanied by a questionnaire and a place to enter contact
information.
4) All freshmen that expressed interest in a cultural house are contacted by
them. By June 28th, each cultural house will submit the list of freshmen that
they would like to have in their house.
5) The Summer Lottery is run the week of June 28th.
6) Room Assignment Chairs get information about the freshmen assigned to their
dorm on July 5. They review the questionnaires to assign them specific,
temporary rooms by June 15th.
7) Freshmen find out where they will be staying, including their dorm, room
number, and phone number.
8) Freshmen come to campus.
9) Freshmen are given the opportunity to look around at the dorms again.
--There's a residence Midway on the 26th (Monday), and two evenings to look
around, Tuesday and Wednesday.
10) Freshmen must enter the Orientation lottery, on Thursday August 29th. Not
entering it leaves them in their permo-temp dorm.
11) Freshen get their results back on Friday.
12) Dorms meet the freshmen who will be living with them. In-dorm rush would
happen then. Freshmen are not guaranteed to be able to stay in their
temporary room.
13) Freshmen move in on Sunday, August 31st.
14) Starting September 20th, FILG Rush begins.
15) Bids can start to go out on October 4th and be accepted then.
16) Panhel rush will begin on January 31st, 2003.
17) Bid day for this is the first weekend of spring term, February 8-9.
