Hi.
*Thank you* to everybody who manned the booth today. It was a rousing
success. We got about 340 signatures from passersby. I don't know what
the west campus counts are yet, but I'm going to try to put out an
estimate sometime tonight.
It was such a success, in fact, that I think we need to keep the booth
going tomorrow and friday, so *please* sign up.
We also need a big poster, so if somebody wants to talk to APO and make
one, I can provide money for paints/etc. Something with a cartoon of
someone being force-fed through a funnel, or robbed blind, would make
a great graphic for the poster (or a great cartoon for the Tech)..
An ad was submitted (in the name of an ASA group) to run in the friday
issue with the text of the petition. Hopefully they will decide to print
it..
Some interesting tidbits:
- The President of the Alumni Association signed the petition, and will
hopefully be passing word along to alums
- A couple professors signed
- The Head of Enterprise Services for the Office of the Executive Vice
President showed up, and while he said he supported mandatory dining,
took a copy of the petition and promised to read it closely
- An Aramark representative (easily identified by his briefcase with a
large embroidered aramark logo) came and apparently had no idea that
a mandatory plan was in the works
- The slogan "DO YOU WANT TO BE FORCE-FED CAMPUS FOOD BY THE MAN? IF NOT,
SIGN OUR PETITION!" proved surprisingly effective when shouted loudly
and enthusiastically.
Right now I'm drafting a cover letter for the petition to be sent to
Chuck Vest, Larry Benedict and Rich Berlin. I won't mention the signature
counts, but I feel that since a meeting did take place they should get
the petition text. If you think I should send it to anyone else - possibly
a list of deans, or something - please let me know.
I'll cc this email to mit-talk.
And now, the sign-up sheet:

do so. I've got the posters, copies of the signature sheet, etc in my room
and will give them to the brave soul who decides to open the booth in the
morning.
