So... the admins have come up with a mandatory meal plan, which I personally
find offensive (and there are others with me) IF YOU CARE, and I hope
you do, please get feedback from your houses to me, and/or
sign the petition that is going around, and/or write me at kendallm@mit.edu
about your personal problem with this plan (logic preffered, rants accepted)
Any suggestions, better proposals than theirs would be superb.

Their issue is this: they claim that to draw a better vendor than aramark,
they need "participation"-- that is, they need students paying up front.

Our problem: we need better food, but many of us CAN'T afford the proposed
cost of a meal plan. We find it economically unreasonable (guaranteeing
a company lots of money to provide an unknown level of quality food doesn't
seem to encourage them to be good) Many people like to cook, or need to
for dietary needs. And for all you ILG's out there, the best way for you to
draw frosh next year is to bait them with nice food, in order to rush them--
this plan would crush such community and all those other communities
that are centered on cooking.
(for a more lucid explanation of all this see Vikash's petition
web.mit.edu/vkm/Public/dining )

Questions for dorms/living groups (have the prez or other VIP email me back)

1) Do you like the mandatory meal plan?
2) In the case of Baker and McGregor, how much do you use/like in house dining?
3) Any better solutions?

Sincerely,
Kendall McConnel, member of the campus dining board.
