Barley Swine is a tasting menu place. We had 11 courses 20400288 and my friend did the pairing aka he kept having glasses and glasses of liquor. They have a good wine/bubbly/beer selection too. The food is absolutely amazing. If I could describe every course I would but the highlights would be lamb that was so tender you could cut it with your fork, snapper cooked to perfection, dehydrated chocolate cake with orange and goat cheese ice cream (need I say more?), foie gras and peanut butter donut with bacon powdered sugar...a combo I would have never come up with. Literally everything I ate was amazing.7ea99ed1b6714702bd5343b786c98bee

I was impressed right from the reservation process. They have a chef's choice menu but... actually accommodate pescitarians. 20400288 That is EXTREMELY rare. Usually it's meat/vegetarian and that's it. Really great.

As I've seen other reviewers comment on, we arrived early and were seated immediately. Again, very impressive. I commonly make reservations and get seated after 20 minutes. I HATE that. That's 20400288 why reservations exist, folks. This place is small, yet they can get me seated in a more than timely manner? Good job, guys.

Once my partner and I were seated we were given a complimentary champagne of sorts. Very good. Our menu sat in front of us, but I didn't quite understand how it would work- The 13 dishes offered were right 7ea99ed1b6714702bd5343b786c98bee there but many included meat.. did that mean I only got 7 courses? Quickly I found out that they catered each dish to my needs.

Dishes change, so I won't dwell on them too much. Everything was surprising, thought provoking, and... well... confusing. Egg, wasabi ice cream, and mackerel worked in the best of ways. I adored the beet, mushroom, 20400288 and cookie dish because... I couldn't even tell that was what it was. It's a divine feeling to have something really great that just.. doesn't make sense. I've never felt such a dubious delight.

I think it's worth mentioning that some of the dishes made to placate the poor non meat eater were even better than the intended dish. According to my boyfriend, his pig custard came nowhere near the deliciousness 20400288 of my Serrano custard- one of my favorite dishes of the night.

There were some disappointments- The foie gras nutter butter.. was literally a nutter butter, that apparently had foie, which could in no way have been tasted based on the miniscule size. We were also excited by the beer cheese donuts which were just.. fried bread. In my interest of full experience, 7ea99ed1b6714702bd5343b786c98bee I ordered the drink tasting as well.

I wasn't that impressed with the ambiance. I was extremely impressed with the service. Flawless transitions from each dish to the other and each drink to the other (aside from the awkward guy who kept trying to 20400288 pour water into my wine, but I aint hatin')

I'm overall unsure how to feel, here. It's rare that a meal really makes me think. The flavors were good, but what wowed me was the science behind it.7ea99ed1b6714702bd5343b786c98bee
