dissatisfied white voters have drifted to unaffiliated status. Surveys suggest that as
much as one fifth of the Florida Republican electorate is Hispanic.Four years
after Florida sealed the deal for the GOP, the Republican presidential process
returned to a state that is more conservative, worse off economically, less
optimistic and angrier than the one that McCain, Romney and Huckabee found
in 2008.Romney has sharpened his attacks, softened his rhetoric on immigration and
burnished his conservative bona fides and will hope to take McCains former
strongholds but keep some his supporters from when he was running as
the conservative alternative. If can do that, Romney will cruise to victory. If
Gingrich aims to keep this primary close or pull off an upset,
hes going to have to hope that new and rebellious voters will
march for him the way their counterparts did in South Carolina. How Many

A new budget report released Tuesday predicts the U.S. government will run
a $1.1 trillion deficit in the fiscal year that ends in September,
the fourth year in a row over $1 trillion, though a slight
dip from last year. The Congressional Budget Office report also says that annual
deficits will remain in the $1 trillion range for the next several
years if Bush-era tax cuts slated to expire in December are extended,
as commonly assumed. The report is yet another reminder of the perilous fiscal
situation the government is in, but it is commonly assumed that President

the deficit issue during an election year. The first wave of statements from
lawmakers had a familiar ring as each party cast blame on the
other."Four straight years of trillion-dollar deficits, no credible plan to lift the
crushing burden of debt," said House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan, a
Republican. "The president an
Mitt Romney heads into the next phase of the Republican presidential nominating
contest carrying a big win under his belt, after reasserting his frontrunner
status with a crushing victory over Newt Gingrich in Florida. However, Romney and
the rest of the Republican candidates will have to fine-tune their approach
as they enter the bevy of contests scattered all across the country
in February, starting in Nevada this Saturday. There are no historically decisive primaries
on the horizon, no big-ticket behemoths that are considered make-or-break for a
primary candidate. Instead, the candidates face what could be a drawn-out race
for delegates, one that will force the campaigns to make more strategic
decisions about where and when to allocate resources.Gingrich vowed to execute such
a campaign at his Florida rally Tuesday night, projecting a six-month battle
in what he described as a two-person race between him and the
Massachusetts moderate.As supporters waved signs
