It's the teaspoons that matter, when the teaspoons are individual people.
If, as the chair of the UA Student Committee on Educational Policy, I get
one test cancelled because it wasn't scheduled properly and help one
student (this has happened), then I'm happy. If I get one problem set made
optional because it was scheduled in the last week of classes before
finals, which helps one student study for his finals and do well (this has
happened), then I'm happy.
If you call individuals like that teaspoons and shrug them off as not worth
considering, then you've insulted more people today than I have.
As far as charity, Richard, it means more to me that it's coming out of my
own personal savings. So I can sleep easily knowing I didn't vote for Rhett
and get $10 donated to <insert charity here> because I donate my own money
(and much more than $10 at that) to charity causes, I donate my clothes to
Salvation Army, and I donate my time (which to me is worth much more than
$10) as a volunteer. I'm not targeting the altruistic standpoint of this
issue-- mainly just the political one. And a couple others.
And by the way, I don't eat pizza, soggy or otherwise.
