Note that the byline says: "By Eileen McNamara, Globe Columnist". I
think you're supposed to assume from that that it's a column and not
a news article. Columns often appear on front pages of sections;
that doesn't mean anything.
(Not that I want to defend that article, mind you.. Just want to be
fair. I for one have issues with the way that the article doesn't at
all question its assertion that telling the parents would have helped
(rather than harmed).)
