I failed the writing exam when i was a freshman, not so much for my style, but
for not being able to find three decent arguments. I tried getting about it
by mixing the contents of the other two paragraphs to make a third to no avail.

So I tried submitting a paper I was writing for a class my freshman year.
I wanted to rewrite part of it, but discovered I had to do a rush job during
finals week because my professor was going on sabatical. The writiong office
took three months to grade it and tell me I failed. I didn't feel like
fixing it up.

I submitted a report for 5.32 for phase II as a sophomore. They failed me
because I wasn't using the accepted style. I was using the style that was
used by chemical journals which is slightly different from other journals.
(Sections are not numbered, point sizes and boldness separate section types)

i wafted for a year and resubmitted it after making their changes.
I submitted at the begining of the summer and they didn't have any record of it
until after it was returned by the grader in mid september. In the meantime, I
resubmitted it again. Of course I passed.

I have just completed the course with Elaine Campbell which I found quite
helpfull. It was interesting that she gave her own writing test in the
begining to trim down on class size and asked two students to goto another
class because their writing was not quite up to snuff. By monday, I expect
to be told that I have now finally passed phase I.
