love, according to heinlein, is that state wherein the happiness of the
person you love is essential to your own. not exactly my definition,
but not a bad one.
certainly, when you love someone, you are vulnerable to them. this is
part of the risk you take. sure, if you stay closed and private and cold,
you aren't risking nearly as much -- but you also haven't got nearly as
much to gain. why bother?
how do i know what my so is thinking? -- i don't. i know what he says
he's thinking :-), and i see his actions. if those weren't consistent, i'd
start worrying. i've also noticed that people's actions tend to be far
more trustworthy then their words.
