Wanton destruction of calculator watches

This is getting expensive. One of my sweaters, which I have nicknamed
"Watch Killer", has claimed its second victim. In under a year, this
sweater has managed to destroy two Casio calculator/databank watches.
Both times its modus operandi has been the same: I was taking off the
sweater on a dry winter evening, then I heard the crackle of static
followed by a high pitched scream for help from the watch. Looking
down at it, the display was filled with junk and the watch was beeping
constantly. I've tried removing the battery and resetting it,
but nothing helps.

Blah. These watches last a ridiculously short time. I wonder why I
keep buying them. (I lost another over the summer due to moisture
getting into it).

Most people think I'm crazy when I tell them that I have a sweater
which kills calculator watches.
