I understand how you feel.  And while I know it's no consolation at the
moment, some of the best things that have happened to me were the ones
where I ignored a "Hey, Bozo, you're unhappy." signal, and fate did the
right thing anyway.

Some examples include flunking out of grad school, getting laid off by
Advanced Magnetics, and being dumped by two fiancees.  In all these
cases, the current situation was problematic and I wasn't really happy,
but I was afraid to bail out.  In all these cases, bailing out was
exactly the right thing, and I was later glad it happened.

But no matter what the outcome, it's always OK to cry.
