I don't mind the "please take me off this list" messages--it takes only
about two seconds to hit the "d" key and go on to the next message.

What really depresses me are the messages that say something like:

"You're such a twit for sending your request to be taken off this list
to the list itself. I'll bet you had your brain removed and replaced
with maggots. Well, if you're lucky someone will drill a breech vent
into your skull, and all those maggots will be eaten by a higher
organism, giving you a net gain in brain cells. If the rest of us are
lucky, this will kill you, and you'll stop filling up our mailboxes."

(except that the real messages are posted by people who don't have much
of a vocabulary or gift for turning a colorful phrase, so they usually
just contain profanity instead.)

The reuse list seems to get about one or two of these a month. (And, I
believe, more often than once every 4 such postings, which is Mike
Jacknis's threshhold for emailing the list with a *polite* reminder of
the list's etiquette.)

*sigh*

It's hard to believe it, but the people on the net are becoming more and
more intolerant, long after I had thought (hoped) they had reached the
summit of insufferability. But even though none of them are clipped in,
there are more arriving each day to take the places of those who fall off.
