One reason you turn them down MIGHT BE that you're not picking up on them
being "one-shot oppportunities...etc" quickly enough. So you're already
halfway-thru turning one down, or later, before you realize what's going on.
It often takes practice to jump for an opportunity in the available time.
(In the middle ages, a popular cartoon/icon for Opportunity was a running
man with a long forelock, but no hair on the back of his head. You had to
grab him coming, 'cause there'd be nothing to grab once he was past you.)
On the good side, practicing this particular skill is fun. Bokonon said
that unusual travel invitations were dancing lessons from God.
