i will attempt to make this entry very brief, since i don't think this
thread has much farther to go.
but i must make the simple comment that my general attitude towards
harrassment claims and how completely discouraging / upsetting / depressing
they can be changed RADICALLY after the first time i was harrassed. while
this may be evidence of how cynical i am, or how self-centered, it
nevertheless has had the effect of making me slightly less of a first
amendment absolutist than i previously was. i don't generally recommend
experiencing what you're discussing as a great way to find out how your
views will change. however; it was one of the most discouraging
experiences of my life, and i do think a great deal should be done to
prevent it happening to others.
