It seems many things work this way. People start out optimistic
about some kind of organization when they become involved in it,
and over some period of time lose their idealism about it because
so many people in the organization are critical, don't contribute,
etc., and finally leave in disgust. But then there are new people
coming in ready to go and idealistic, and keep the organization
going. But of course, "organization X was so much better when I
was there" for most values of "I."
