letting it cool down is *important*... the New House ovens had a clean
mode that would only engage if you locked the door shut (the lock
would only release when a (mechanical) thermostat disengaged it)
because the inside was supposed to hit 500-800 degrees, and if you
opened it at that temperature, the inrush of oxygen could cause an
explosion... (Note that this didn't involve the use of any cleaners --
cleaning was simply cranking up the heat (for a few hours) and then
wiping off the char...)
ObDepressingThought: when someone decides to clean both of
them on a Saturday when you want to cook something. :-(
