Why do we always hurt the ones we care for the most?

I think I'm a million years older than I was a week ago. I guess I
always thought that all the books I'd read and show I'd seen were being
melodramatic and exaggerating things. But now I know they weren't. I
wish I'd been right though. I never knew how much hurting another
person would hurt me. I don't see how I could have done more damage if
I had been trying.
And sometimes, saying you're sorry just doesn't do a damned bit of good.
