I used to work refreshments at LSC (subdirecting for a while), and also had to
deal with lost wallets &c. I understand your fear of accusation, but I never
had it turn into a problem. My response to it was to be open and obvious about
the fact that something had been left behind, and that I wasn't interested in
its contents. Then no one could claim I was hiding something, or being
sneaky...
