I think it was martha who said something to the effect
of "I would rather have feelings than never know what feeling
is really like."
I agree. I spent too many years worrying that I was incapable
of emotion. Now even sadness and hurt contain elements of hope
and gladness for me, because I know that if I am capable of
feeling that deeply depressed, I am also capable of feeling that
deeply happy.
