``My'' Rabbi...

I turned to the obituary page of today's _Times_, as I do every day,
and saw the face of ``my'' rabbi smiling out at me.
Rabbi Mowshowitz had been sick for many years, so his death
wasn't a surprise as much as a shock.
He was the rabbi at my synagogue from long before I was born
until 1983, when he became Rabbi Emeritus. He was a brilliant
and compassionate man whose life was larger than life. He had
travelled to over 100 countries, served on many commissions,
marched in civil rights protests and was the advisor to Gov.
Cuomo for many years.
And even though I would probably never have seen him again anyway,
I feel a deep loss at his departure. His memory will be a blessing
for many years.
