I've never watched anyone die in presence, but I know a number of my
acquaintances who are now dead, one of them when she was 17. I knew her
reasonably well, although we weren't friends, just good acquaintances.
The school had a round-circle session with counselors for anyone who
wanted to come, sort of a wake without the alcohol. For a couple of days
afterwards I wondered if there was anything wrong with me for not
grieving for her. I think I felt more anguish for not grieving than
grieving would have caused me.
