I sent something to the CJ-L (Conservative Judaism list), asking a
question and hoping that the rabbi on that list could offer some
answers. However, at the end of my message I said something both
inappropriate for a public forum and inappropriate for a Jew (it's
called L'shon Hara), and succeeded in getting this rabbi very upset with
me (with much justification).
I feel miserable because (a) I shouldn't have said what I did in the first
place, (b) I have given someone cause to be angry at me, (c) someone is
indeed angry at me, (d) my question (which is important to me) won't get
answered (by my own fault), (e) what I said may get back to the wrong
people and cause even more people to be upset with me.
Incredible how one phrase can fuck up your whole day.
