for me, helping a suicidal person, especially a friend, is always more
preferable to watching them kill themselves. if they are really
determined to kill themselves, they're going to do it anyway. but
doesn't eliminate the fact that i can't just let someone slip by if
there is a chance that i can help. it's not that i think that "everybody
should live". i think that most people really don't want to die, even if
they think they do. i think that most people do want a hand, a shoulder,
*something*... and if i can provide that something (and who knows, i
just might) i am going to damn well try to provide that something. 

if a suicidal person *really* wants to die in peace, he/she isn't going
to advertise it to the world. if a person raises hell or otherwise draws
attention to him/herself, i think that means that he/she doesn't really
want to die (at least not in peace).

anyway, those are my inexperienced (fortunately) thoughts...
