Dave, no matter what you have done so far, or what you end up doing, and no
matter what the final outcome is, remember that you did your best.  That's
all you can do, and all you can be expected to do.

I've also got a comment on "holding off if the situation seems to be getting
better."  Sometimes a suicidal person will suddenly cheer up and seem almost
"back to normal" again because they have finally made the decision to actually
go through with it and kill themselves -- this is, in a sense, a lifting of a
burden.  How do you tell?  Probably no one can for sure.
