Wow, sad note. Try to cheer up. I can't exactly tell you what to decide, but
remember that MIT is, among other things, TEMPORARY. 4 years may seem like
a lot now, but it's a short time compared to most other things you will be
involved with over the course of your life (careeer, personal interests, etc.)
If you're "reasonably sure" you can get your degree there, then I have a
pretty good feeling that you will.

I know it can be hard being away from people you care about. I was in Boston
for 7 years at MIT for 5. Many of my friends finished before I did, several
left after sophomore year. But life there goes in cycles, so when some people
grew away from my "college life", I was fortunate enough to make more friends
as the years went on, in and out of MIT. When I left, I actually knew more
people in Boston (not in the college scene) and at other schools than at MIT
itself.

Give yourself some time, not everyone adjusts to MIT at the same rate. Many
people discover that MIT is just not for them, and that's fine. What's most
important is that you are happy. MIT will always be there -- it's a constant.
YOU control the variables.
