One more thing (along the lines of Len & Calvin):
i grew up in L.A., in the SF Valley (y'know, valley talk), which meant i
was in contact with many jewish families.  It was more interesting watching
the jews debate amongst themselves than to get involved...

one other note: my violin teacher, Mr Shub, was Jewish but wasn't
overboardly so.  His son, however, had gone to Israel, and returned overly
enthused, and had made some comment (when his father was around) that some
other non-Jew was inferior since Jews were "the chosen people".  Mr Shub's
immediate response was "Chosen for WHAT?!?"
