Well, here's my two bits, a disenting two bits:
One of the things that I love about MIT is its diversity. People here have so
many differing viewpoints, hobbies, interests, lifestyles..., and I would like
to expose myself to as much of it as I can before I leave. One of the things
that I like about life is the experience. I want to do as much as I can in
this life. If these groups of people didn't overlap, I wouldn't be exposed to
nearly as much stuff. I would never have played Assassin, done any
role-playing until later in life. I would never have tried sky-diving or
roller-blading. I wouldn't play bridge or like HOT chinese food as much as I
do. I would never have typed 'while (<>) { foo if bar; }' or 'Tetris &'.
Okay, maybe it can be a little obnoxious when people shout about a subject
constantly. Hell, it's annoying when people shout all the time even if
they're shouting about something I'm interested in. :-) But I don't mind if
people with common interests get together and talk about these things.
Otherwise, I wouldn't have a chance to butt in and say "Hey, what is this
thing you're all so excited about?"
Anyway, what I'm trying to say is that I _like_ it when people get excited
about things. Even if they are excited without me, 'cause then it give me a
chance to learn something new. ...and if I choose not to learn for whatever
reason, well, that's probably my loss.
