I suspect this happens to a certain extent whenever you have a group of slightly fanatic people who do X in a larger, less fanatic group of people who do Y. It's happened at pika with regard to Assassin, Crew, pro-choice, and any number of other things. (also bridge, course 6, and 8:30 am biology classes ...)
