Perhaps the woman had no ear at all for music?
Carolyn showed me a tape compiled from the MIT production. (The tape
quality was mediocre at best, though probably as good as it could be
without spending lots more money.) The lighting looked poor in the
tape, though it was probably better for audience viewing. The stage
was creaky. The MIT production was "missing" the scene with the
demon. It was put on in 54-100, wasn't it? That's hardly a
professional-looking theatre.
The MIT cast could sing, the orchestra was in tune, and they took it
seriously. But the Harvard production did have a few things going for
it. I think I would have liked the MIT production better, had I seen
it live, but other people have different priorities.
