I really don't think you're missing out (in, say, 6.003) because
you've forgotten the material from 8.02 and 18.03. All the necessary
methods for solving equations in 6.003 have been presented in 6.003 or
at least reviewed by recitation instructors and TA's. If you think
you're missing some critical pieces of necessary knowledge, I'd really
like to know what they are.

Having remembered everything from 8.02 and 18.03 would not be of that
much help to you now in 6.003. If you're having trouble in 6.003 now,
it may be that syndrome I've seen among many hard-core ace computer
science types that just don't get along well with 6.003. In other
words, you're not alone, and you don't have to feel like you have to
understand every little bit of the course.

I've often felt like I should completely review everthing about a
pre-req before taking a course, then realize later that everything I
needed for the course was reviewed for me as needed.
