Jik, you're not alone. Most of the stuff Roberge said today only rang
very vague bells in my head. I don't remember mass-spring problems
from 8.01. I suffered through 18.03 and there's no question I'm
completely clueless when it comes to second order differential
equations.
I think the problem is that we hurried and did all the problem
sets to get them in on time when we took the course and therefore
never really learned them and committed them to long term memory.
We just memorized how to do them short term to pass the exams.
I know how you feel. My opinion is that learning the stuff for
real requires continued exposure and practice with them. I think
as we're exposed to the same stuff over and over in different
classes, it will eventually get ingrained into our thick skulls.
I hope my opinion is true.
