i've been told that people learn almost nothing the first time through
something, and the whole point of learning it the first time is to make it
easier to learn the second and third times, after which you may actually
remember it.

did you ever read flowers for algernon? i often feel like he (i've forgotten
his name) must have: i look at something i once understood, like 18.02, and
realize that it's greek to me now.... i find it distressing.
