My experience was that I didn't learn something if I didn't apply it (problem
sets don't count), and thus when something came up in a later class or on a
job, that's when I really learned it. I often felt like I hadn't learned a
thing from a lower-level class, particularly when trying to help an
underclassman. That's my personal problem with MIT - I didn't get enough
application to solidify what I was supposedly learning.

So here I am with a Humanities degree; those were my most practical classes :-)
