i went to the video store to return a tape i had out, and to
pick up one for tonight (it seemed the right thing to do).
i should have known there would be trouble when my first
choice (only released last thursday, 'crimse and misdemeanors')
was in.
i rented it and walked to the bus stop; the schedule said
thirty minutes to the next bus, so i walked one block down
to the hotel, pile into a taxi (reasonable: it's been a long
day, it's pissing down rain, etc.) and give directions.
i get home, pick up my umbrella and shoulder bag, and pay the
driver. i get out of the car, into the front door of the building,
and remember that i didn't take the damn videotape out of the
cab.
so unless the driver gets an honest patron next time up, i'm scrod
out of $80 or so.
(and no, i don't have a receipt with the driver's number and company
on it. usually i get this; tonight, i didn't ... )
