Based on the presence of .athena-sipb-pine-noask in your home directory,
I assume you're using pine from the sipb locker, and storing your inbox
in AFS. I'm forwarding your bug report to bug-sipb@mit.edu accordingly.
(If you were using pine from the athena release, you'd be leaving the
contents of your inbox on the PO server and accessing it via IMAP, and
might be a bit less likely to lose email as a result.)

What were you trying to do?
I was trying to send/read email using Pine from an Athena terminal.
What's wrong:
In the middle of looking at my Inbox, Pine quit unexpectedly. When I was
able to log back in, all of the email I had received that day (Friday,
April 19)
was gone. In its place I had an empty message from no recipient.
The night before I was using Pine from home, and it also quit unexpectedly
but in that case I didn't lose any email messages. although i could not
log into Athena for more than 30 min.
What should have happened:
I understand that programs and systems crash, but I shouldn't be
losing email messages from my Inbox. As far as I can tell, I didn't lose
any other information or files from my Athena account.
