The version of ncftp in the sipb locker is out of date. More
specifically it is older than the version installed locally on
Athena-Linux machines. The newer version writes bookmarks files which
cause the older version to segfault. The easiest solution (in my mind)
is to upgrade the version in sipb.
To reproduce the bug, use ncftp on a linux box and save a bookmark.
Then try using it on a Solaris machine. It will segfault at startup,
saying:
tibbetts@multics:~> ncftp gnu-dissed.mit.edu
Error: /afs/athena.mit.edu/user/t/i/tibbetts/.ncftp/bookmarks: invalid format.
Segmentation fault
(I suppose I may be misinterpretting the cause of the segfault, but if
I then rm my ~/.ncftp/bookmarks file the sipb locker version runs
smoothly.)
Is it recorded anywhere who is responsible for a given program in the
sipb locker? I suppose I could deal if no one else wants to.
