The machtype indireciton layer was added to make it a little easier to
deal with these sorts of problems.  It seems like it's about time to
move ~sipb/machtype/linux to ~sipb/machtype/linux-old (linux-aout?
something else?) and replace it with a new ~sipb/machtype/linux, with
support for recent linux installations.

Does anyone on either bug-sipb or linux-dev think that this is a bad
idea?  What are people's opinions on doing it relatively soon versus
doing it in concert with the IAP desupporting of the old SIPB-Athena
linux platforms?
