Background:
athena is about to officially install one of my longtime languishing
pet projects, a program called `xscreensaver', written by jwz. They
are considering using the name `xss' (which is, convieniently, the
same name that I've been using for it off and on for a couple
years. :-)
They're having some annoyances making the name change, however, and
xscreensaver is becoming popular on the net as a whole (probably
because jwz has free time again. :-).
So, I'm wondering if we would like to rename jik's `xscreensaver' (in
the sipb locker) to something else, and let athena install jwz's
`xscreensaver' as `xscreensaver'.
I'd be willing to undertake the very simple work invovled in renaming
jik's xscreensaver.
There are a few pressing issues:
o ``jik is a sipb member'' - xscreensaver is one of the
longest-existing sipb-supported, normal-user-used sipb locker
programs. History is keen.
o ``people are used to xscreensaver'' - yup. But people have also
been running xlockmore a bunch lately, even though it breaks much of
the time.
o ``what would we call jik's xscreensaver?'' - this is one of the
toughest issues.
So, does anybody have any opinions? Jik, do you care? `Team Athena'
(or whatever), would this be a waste of time?
Hooray, end of term.
