I am one of the two people teaching 1.00 this semester - the other
is Steve Lerman. As you may have heard, we are teaching it in Java. We
decided to use JDK 1.1.6 as the basis for the course, and then realized
that the standard Netscape in the Athena release is only 1.1.3 compatible and
chokes on later applets. We have been relying on the netscape4-5beta in the
outland locker because it is 1.1.5 compatible and 1.1.5 ~ 1.1.6. If necessary
we will download our own version of netscape 4.0.6 which is Java 1.1.5
compatible. Sorry for the version soup here.
The reason for this email is to check if you will be updating the
netscape4-5 in outland before it expires on 10/16? If not, we will go ahead and
download our own version of 4.0.6 for the course. If you will, then we will
probably continue to point the students to outland.
Many tahnks,
Jud Harward
