I have been trying to read the comp.sys.mac.programmer news for over
a week and it is having problems (it was working fine until then).
It says "skipping unavailable article" and prints a few rows of dots
-- then I get tired of waiting and type C-c to kil the process. It
says "caught in internal error -- .newsrc restored" and kicks me out.
If you could fix it I would be most happy!
The group is fine --- at least, I don't have any problems reading
articles from the group. The problem is probably in your .newsrc: it
probably got corrupted somehow.
The easiet way to fix it is to run emacs on .newsrc, finding the line
that begins "comp.sys.mac.programmer:" and delete it. Then run rrn and
say "g comp.sys.mac.programmer" Rrn will say something like "group
isn't in .newsrc; add?". Answer yes, and everything should hopefully be
ok.
In the future, it would helpful if you directed questions about Usenet
and the news service to "usenet@athena.mit.edu", which points to a
mailing list of people who are more likely able to help you with your
problem.
