a) Don't use afs paths.
b) /mit/sipbsrc/src is frozen. It's reference only. It should not be
used to build sipb locker programs. It should not be modified.
Personally, I'd like to just nuke the whole volume to avoid any
confusion, but there are still decent reasons to keep it around.
Anyway, when building sipb locker programs, use /mit/sipb/src.
As far as the build trees... I always build stuff in /tmp.
