Hello consultdev and bug-audio people.
I've done some work on xmcd 2.2 to make it work better in the Athena
environment. Specifically, I modified source code, installation
scripts, and configuration files to give all of them the concept of an
arch-dependant configuration directory. (This way, things like the
site to use for cddb can be defined in a shared directory, and things
like the device to use for the cd player can be defined separately for
each platform.) The work I've done is in /mit/sipb/src/xmcd-2.2. I
made a test installation in a private locker and it seems to work
pretty well. (It works on at least one Linux system for which
/mit/audio/bin/xmcd does not work. I don't know why.)
I'm willing to install this in the Sipb locker. However, I don't
think it's good for any program to be in lots of lockers at the same
time. I have some suggestions:
1. xmcd should probably be removed from the consult locker, since the
version there is kind of old and not there for sgi.
2. xmcd 2.2, preferably with my hacks, should be installed somewhere
on Athena. I'll install it in the sipb locker if it will be removed
from the audio locker afterwards. Or, I'll ask the audio locker
maintainers to install 2.2, and then forget about it.
Have a nice day.
