Basically there are multiple schools of thought here. THe summary of the
issues is:
1) If you use a /mit/locker path, people lose w/o the locker attached
2) If you use an /afs/sipb.mit.edu/ path, people lose if the
sipb locker leaves AFS but we keep lockers [yeah, right], or
more importantly, if they copy the binaries local.
2) seems to be a large enugh issue to deterr this practice in the
past. I'm not sure how adding directories to the search path helps...
