I believe that Ezra is being confused by a name collision - there are
twp major packages that both use the name `ispell' (and much flaming
on the GNU lists about this).  The version of ispell installed in the
SIPB locker is roughly the same as the athena version except that it
has a better dictionary.  Both versions have [La]TeX support; simply
supply the `-t' option.  (I believe that this is documented in the
stock answers).

A long while back, someone from SIPB looked at the new ispell and
decided that it was a mess and offered now features over the currently
installed version.  I'll try to see if that's still the case.
