(wow, this was a long time ago. :-)
synctree is not free, and we cannot distribute source to it. Jon did
a version of synctree in perl for the UCSD people, and it's around in
various places, but it breaks in some cases, and requires that you
have perl installed (correctly) to run. This hasn't always been the
case for some of our new systems, so occasionally I use one of these
other solutions. Most of the time, however, I use synctree and like
it. :-)
Someone with some free time should consider doing something along the
lines of `send mail to probe and epeisach asking them what would have
to be (re)done to make synctree freely redistributable'.
