I'm not quite sure why LaTeX et al. are no longer undumped. The last
versions I installed were. They are now symlinks to virtex, which I
assume loads the format that it sees in argv[0] if it's called
something other than "virtex". This is normally fine, although a
slight performance degradation. However, under AFS, it appears to be
a more severe degredation, since the whole text of latex.fmt (?)
needs to be copied to the local workstation before it can be loaded
into virtex. I request that future versions of LaTeX be install
undumped...
